​​​​​ESSENTIAL Competencies

The Accounting and Reporting Manager position will participate in the monthly close on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory basis, establishing accounting policies, support best practices and is responsible for producing and filing quarterly and annual P&C reports and overseeing all state required filings and payments for an insurance company.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage SEC filing and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare key components of audited statutory statements, GAAP statements as well as various state filings.
  • Participate in all aspects of monthly financial close process.
  • Manage various functional or operational areas within accounting, which could include compensation, fixed assets, revenue, investments, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Work with Management team to identify and analyze key operating metrics; prepare reports in timely and accurate manner.
  • Support maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Assist in development and implementation of policies, priorities, and procedures.
  • Provide oversight and support for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Model Audit Rule 205 (MAR 205) documentation.
  • Remain abreast of changes through publications, pronouncements and rules; present findings and analysis to Manager.
  • Hire, train, develop and manage members of Corporate Accounting Team
  • Coordinate with other reporting groups to ensure consistent reporting.
  • Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.

ESSENTIAL Competencies

  • Undergraduate degree (Accounting major preferred).
  • Five or more years of industry or public accounting experience. CPA certification or MBA preferred or working to achieve same.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently under general direction with latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize problems and recommend solutions.
  • Understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting.
  • Works ethically and with integrity supporting organizational goals and values.
  • Completes work in a timely manner and meets deadlines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information and uses information appropriately.
  • Analyzes and interprets information accurately.
