ESSENTIAL Competencies
The Accounting and Reporting Manager position will participate in the monthly close on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory basis, establishing accounting policies, support best practices and is responsible for producing and filing quarterly and annual P&C reports and overseeing all state required filings and payments for an insurance company.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage SEC filing and reporting requirements.
- Prepare key components of audited statutory statements, GAAP statements as well as various state filings.
- Participate in all aspects of monthly financial close process.
- Manage various functional or operational areas within accounting, which could include compensation, fixed assets, revenue, investments, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Work with Management team to identify and analyze key operating metrics; prepare reports in timely and accurate manner.
- Support maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers.
- Assist in development and implementation of policies, priorities, and procedures.
- Provide oversight and support for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Model Audit Rule 205 (MAR 205) documentation.
- Remain abreast of changes through publications, pronouncements and rules; present findings and analysis to Manager.
- Hire, train, develop and manage members of Corporate Accounting Team
- Coordinate with other reporting groups to ensure consistent reporting.
- Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.
ESSENTIAL Competencies
- Undergraduate degree (Accounting major preferred).
- Five or more years of industry or public accounting experience. CPA certification or MBA preferred or working to achieve same.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently under general direction with latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
- Ability to work effectively at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to identify and prioritize problems and recommend solutions.
- Understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting.
- Works ethically and with integrity supporting organizational goals and values.
