This is a remote position. Applicants must reside in the Pacific Time Zone, as the working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM PT.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Underwriting Manager coordinates with the Underwriting Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the team of Senior Underwriters, Senior Operation Analysts and Underwriters to ensure proper mortgage insurance approvals are made by the Underwriting team. The Manager works closely with the Director, Underwriting to ensure Underwriter turn times and quality remain at company agreed upon levels.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and review Underwriter’s work for consistency in following guidelines and underwriting philosophy.
- Participate with senior management in department and company-wide initiatives related to underwriting procedures and strategies.
- Assist in preparing formal reports to communicate underwriting results and trends.
- Assist Underwriters with management review of loans escalated for appraisal review, or review for decline decisions. Grant management exception within authority and recommend facilitating renegotiation of loans based on guidelines and policy tolerances.
- Develop and facilitate new employee underwriting orientation, system training and coaching.
- Provide leadership, direction, or training to team members and communicate performance feedback.
- Communicate effectively with internal staff to maintain high level of customer service.
- Develop and monitor a timely flow of underwriting files and condition sign off to facilitate company turn times.
- Assist Indexing/Processing Department with problematic files to expedite submissions.
- Effectively communicate with Lenders, Sales Advisors, and internal departments providing accurate and timely responses regarding program guidelines and policy.
- Work as AXIS liaison with IT group to make recommendations for system enhancements, and documents details of our line of business needs, submit requests, and participate in system testing upon rollout.
- Work with Director and Vice President to monitor workflow, quality trends and acceptable turn-times.
- Manage departmental special projects through to successful completion.
- Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of six to ten years underwriting or underwriting management experience.
- MI Risk experience preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
- Strong customer service skills and values.
- Team player with selfless attitude.
- Precise attention to detail.
Base Salary Range: $94,100 - $120,000/year
