POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the Copywriter is to write, edit and proofread high-quality and engaging content across all marketing and communication channels, ensuring consistency with National MI’s brand tone and voice. This position focuses on creating accurate and compelling copy for various initiatives while collaborating with the marketing team to uphold brand standards and deadlines. The Copywriter serves as a key resource for maintaining editorial guidelines and supports the broader marketing team by contributing to the development of graphic assets, video content, and event materials.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyzes, creates, and produces high quality, business relevant, creative copy for various marketing channels and communication types including: customer emails, social media, video scripts, press releases, advertising collateral, website content, event content marketing, thought leadership pieces, and internal communications such as company newsletters, employee communications, etc.
- With general guidance, develops and maintains the company’s Editorial “Voice” Style Guide.
- Establishes and enforces the editorial style 'voice' for National MI’s marketing and communication efforts, conveying a consistent and cohesive brand message across all deliverables.
- Develops copy for a wide range of marketing deliverables across multiple audiences. Copy will have perfection in structure, grammar, spelling, proper tone and factual accuracy.
- Collaborates with other team members to ensure optimal brand standards are maintained and innovative creative solutions are successfully delivered on time and on budget.
- Takes strategic and tactical input from team members and leadership; understands the goals, strategy, audience, focus, product/service details and specifications of a given project.
- Gathers any necessary research and other information (e.g., statistics, interviews, pricing information, technical product specifications, competitive information, etc.) needed to complete a piece or project.
- Develops all first draft copy needed by the company.
- Receives revisions, corrections and suggestions from experts and leadership; integrates such input appropriately into finished product.
- Edits, proofreads and provides feedback on existing content.
- Works closely with creative, digital and production staff to ensure copy accuracy, fit and appropriateness for specific marketing channel and format.
- As part of an internal marketing team, crafts messaging that is consistent with National MI’s brand, accurate, and legally compliant.
- Supports the broader marketing team in developing or maintaining creative graphic assets, video content, event collateral, and marketing merchandise.
- Provides ad hoc project assistance, as needed.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing / Advertising, Creative Writing, or English preferred or additional commensurate work experience is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in copywriting – specifically in a financial services or highly regulated industry is preferred.
- Strong organization and project management skills required, with a high degree of personal accountability for results.
- Experience in B2B marketing and communications is preferred.
- Experience using WordPress is preferred.
- Ability to quickly become an expert in our industry, business, products and brand identity.
- Aptitude, interest, or experience in other marketing disciplines like digital design, video, etc. is preferred.
- Ability to translate and simplify complex concepts into everyday language.
- Must be an adept writer, editor, and idea generator with effective written and verbal communication skills across various marketing channels.
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team and synthesize multiple inputs and feedback from various stakeholders.
- Must be a logical, yet creative thinker that is an enthusiastic problem solver with a natural curiosity and instinct to ask questions, learn and challenge.
- Must be able to take constructive criticism with ease and grace.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must provide sample portfolio of work demonstrating ability to conceive ideas and write various content types for various audiences, across various marketing platforms.
- Must successfully complete writing assessment as part of the interview process.
Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $84,000/year
