POSITION SUMMARY

(Position is based in Emeryville, CA)

The Manager is responsible for the management and administration of quota-share reinsurance and structured reinsurance (e.g., Insurance Linked Notes) data analytic requests, as well as managing the ongoing reporting and compliance of these reinsurance agreements.  The Manager will also analyze data, correlating requirements of transactions to business processes and associated data, and propose and develop process solutions for business partners.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the reinsurance reporting and compliance team, reviewing outputs to ensure deliverables are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Participate as a core corporate analytics team member in structuring and preparing data for new deal evaluation.
  • Liaise between reinsurance partners and the organization. Investigate and respond to reinsurance partner inquiries.
  • Review quota-share reinsurance and structured reinsurance deal and contract terms and work in collaboration with Finance, Legal, Risk and IT to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the upstream and downstream impact of quota-share reinsurance and structured reinsurance agreements and collaborate across the organization to ensure the agreements are appropriately integrated.
  • Support decision-makers at all levels of the organization through generation and communication of timely and thoughtful analysis and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the IT Department on documenting business requirements and future system enhancements to aid in the development of advancing functionality.
  • Drive change management and control best practices, procedures and standards, and apply these to the reporting process.
  • Provide consultative input, based on data and experience, in support of Finance, Risk Management, Underwriting Operations, IT, Legal and Servicing.
  • Additional responsibilities include development of team members and support of the broader Finance, Legal and Risk teams including development and support of the Corporate Analytics team.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, a related field; or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree or related industry certifications related to this position are a plus. Big 4 CPA a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of reinsurance experience.
  • Minimum of three years of prior management experience.
  • Intermediate/advanced technical skills, including database query/SQL proficiency and advanced Excel analysis/modeling and data manipulation capabilities.
  • Residential mortgage origination and servicing practices experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with other database, statistical analysis, or data visualization tools desirable.
  • Ability to quickly learn proprietary software products used in supporting the business operations.
  • Demonstrated skill in problem-solving, analytical aptitude, organization, and time management.
  • Ability to navigate rapidly changing requirements, identify solutions and redirect resources quickly.
  • Understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into operational requirements.
  • Ability to interpret contractual or operational requirements into action steps and tasks for team members and collaborators.
  • Proven ability to evaluate business processes and recommend changes that drive increased efficiency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as role will interact with all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.
