JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Accounting and Reporting (Investments & Statutory) position will participate in the monthly close on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory basis, establish accounting policies, and support best practices with a primary focus on investment accounting.  The Manager will produce and file the quarterly, annual and continuing statutory and regulatory reports, and oversee all state required filings and payments for an insurance company.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in all aspects of the monthly financial close process.
  • Manage the financial accounting and reporting requirements for the organization's investment portfolio including, but not limited to, available-for-sale accounting, fair value reporting, and other-than temporary-impairment (OTTI) assessments.
  • Manage statutory filing and reporting requirements.
  • Manage preparation of and filing of audited statutory statements and state filings.
  • Manage the design, implementation and execution of accounting and reporting processes- including internal controls, related systems/applications, journal entry review, and account reconciliations.
  • Work with internal staff and outside service providers on investment accounting and reporting.
  • Support the preparation of the audited GAAP statements.
  • Work with management team to identify and analyze key operating metrics and prepare reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Assist in development and implementation of policies, priorities, and procedures.
  • Provide oversight and support for SOX documentation.
  • Provide support, guidance and leadership to direct reports and team members.
  • Coordinate with other reporting groups to ensure consistent reporting.
  • Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (foreign equivalent accepted).
  • Five or more years of progressive work experience in the industry or in public accounting experience, which must include 1 year of management experience and experience in the financial services industry, and statutory and GAAP accounting.
  • CPA certification also required.
