National MI has a unique opportunity for a self-starting experienced conventional mortgage business analyst. You’ll be a great fit if you have experience with selecting quality assurance samples, re-underwriting residential mortgage loans, preparing and analyzing loan-level reports, and identifying loan-level risk trends. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with management on remedial risk management actions and work with underwriters and vendors to resolve QA findings. You’ll be tasked with maintaining a professional rapport with internal and external customers.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Underwriting QA Analyst is responsible for improving the accuracy and effectiveness of National MI’s internal and external underwriters, vendors, and lenders. The Senior Underwriting QA Analyst advises and trains underwriters, vendors, and lenders on acceptable loan quality standards based on National MI’s risk policy and guidelines, and GSE guidelines while maintaining strong underwriter, vendor, and lender relationships. This position is responsible for analyzing loan-level quality assurance results, identifying risk trends, recommending the appropriate risk management responses, and providing follow-up remedial action reports to senior management.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review residential mortgage loans to determine accuracy of underwriting, data accuracy within National MI’s systems, and compliance with National MI’s internal and external risk policies and guidelines.
  • Effectively plan and execute quality assurance reviews to ensure potentially high-risk findings are reconciled and/or remedied in a manner that limits National MI’s risk exposure.
  • Prepare quality assurance reports for senior management, factually supported for conclusions drawn.
  • Analyze underwriters loan review turn-times compared to departmental goals and targets. 
  • Communicate quality assurance findings to underwriters, vendors, and lender partners.
  • Collaborate with lender partners, and senior management, to refine quality of loan submissions.
  • Maintain quality assurance procedures and workflow charts.
  • Apply mortgage insurance underwriting guidelines or GSE guidelines based on overall loan risk.
  • Stay informed regarding changes to GSE guidelines, National MI Risk Policy, and National MI’s underwriting guidelines.
  • Perform ad hoc responsibilities, as needed.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading front-line underwriting of conventional loans.
  • Past contract underwriting experience preferred.
  • Mortgage insurance risk experience required.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting technology including DU, LPA or any lender specific underwriting system.
  • Proficient with MS Office tools including Teams, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Analyzes and interprets information accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Base Salary: $80,000 - $101,600

The posted Base Salary Range may vary for key factors including, but not limited to, location, experience and skill set.
